Fire Department Apparatuses

Ladder 1 is a 2003 Smeal 100 foot platform. The apparatus has an Allison automatic transmission, a 500 horse power Detroit diesel motor, a 300 gallon water tank, and a Waterous 2000 gpm fire pump. The platform can reach the full 100 feet and support up to three fire fighters in the platform at one time. The reach of the ladder is also helpful in rescue situations. Fire fighters can perform high and low angle rescue from the platform utilizing the anchor arm on the platform.

Engine 1 the infamous “Yellowjacket Fire Truck” is a 2004 Precision Class A pumper. The apparatus has an Allison automatic transmission, 400 horsepower Detroit diesel motor, 500 gallon water tank, and a Waterous 1500 gpm fire pump. This vehicle is the department’s front line apparatus responding from fire station #1. The apparatus carries vehicle extrication equipment, advanced life support medical equipment, and fire suppression equipment. This apparatus also has a foam system which enables fire fighters to extinguish fires involving gasoline, diesel, and other fuels quickly.

Ladder 2 is a 2008 Smeal 75 foot straight ladder and is the front line apparatus responding out of fire station #2. The apparatus has an Allison automatic transmission, a 515 horse power Detroit diesel motor, a 300 gallon water tank, and a Waterous 2000 gpm fire pump. The ladder can reach the full 75 feet and support up two fire fighters at the tip at one time. The reach of the ladder is also helpful in rescue situations. Fire fighters can perform high and low angle rescue from the ladder tip utilizing the rescue anchors at the ladder tip. Along with the fire suppression equipment the apparatus also carries vehicle extrication equipment and advanced life support medical equipment. This apparatus also has a foam system which enables fire fighters to extinguish fires involving gasoline, diesel, and other fuels quickly.
Engine 2 is a 1995 HME Class A pumper. The apparatus has an Allison automatic transmission, diesel motor, 1000 gallon water tank, and a Hale 1500 gpm fire pump. This vehicle is the department’s reserve apparatus and is housed at fire station #2. The apparatus carries advanced life support medical equipment, basic vehicle extraction tools, and fire suppression equipment.

Squad 2 is a 2006 Precision Fire Apparatus custom built heavy rescue. This vehicle carries a large assortment of tools and equipment intended for fire suppression, hazardous materials, emergency medical incidents, and technical rescue. The cache of equipment on this vehicle includes; air monitors and chemical detection equipment, chemical spill containment supplies, confined space tripod, assorted ropes and rigging hardware, trench collapse shores, hydraulic vehicle extrication tools, hazardous material protective clothing, breathing air supply and fill station, elevate lighting, generator, hand tools, electric and gas powered saws, and rescue air bags. This vehicle is designed to respond to a variety of incidents and provide necessary support to mitigate such incidents.
Three staff vehicles are utilized by the fire department administrative staff. CHIEF 1 is a gold 2006 Ford Expedition, CHIEF 2 is a white 2003 Ford Expedition, and INSPECTOR is a gold 2004 Ford Explorer. These vehicles each carry an assortment of equipment including SCBA, emergency medical supplies, AED, and bunker gear for the Chief Officer assigned to each vehicle. Each vehicle is equipped with multiple radios and a computer. The vehicles are designed to provide command and control of emergency incidents. During large incidents such as commercial structure fires each vehicle can be positioned to provide command and control functions from multiple vantage points and provide information to the incident commander.
